A Guide to Enjoying the Outdoors in the Winter Months

If you want to see a landscape that is beautiful, romantic and enchanting then you are spoilt for choice in the British Isles! Despite being cooler and wetter, the winter is a great time to and explore the great outdoors – the summer sightseers will have left and the landscape remains largely undisturbed – you will certainly meet far fewer people on your travels!

You may want to update your winter wardrobe before you head out into the chilly wind – you can get great deals on aran sweaters at many places, as well as a vast selection of hats and scarves that will have you feeling snug through the winter months.

When heading out for a winter walk, it is also a good idea to plan your route. If the weather does change, as it is so unpredictable at this time of the year, you will know where you are going, even if visibility is low.

It is also a good idea to make sure that you have a compass and a fully charged mobile phone with you in case you get into any difficulties – especially if you enjoy more challenging or remote walks.

Seeing the countryside in the winter is a joy, and there are so many places that you can go there is really plenty for everyone to enjoy – from comfortable flat terrain for people who may not be as mobile, forest sculpture trails that young children will love, and dramatic landscapes that are perfect for those who like an adrenaline rush!
