dissers.info — The Groucho Club is forced to shut as authorities investigate whether the location was the scene of a major bad guy offense.
On Tuesday Westminster council ruled that the licence of the club, which matters many A-list stars amongst its participants, should be instantly put on hold for 28 days. A complete listening to will after that occur.
The Metropolitan authorities said it had used for the suspension “because the location had breached its licensing problems and had been the scene of a current major bad guy offense”.
The closure comes as the run-up to Xmas is beginning – usually among one of the most profitable seasons.
The Groucho Club’s chief exec, Elli Jafari, composed to participants and apologised for the short-term closure on Tuesday, including that it had taken the application to review its licence “very seriously”.
“The club’s licence is put on hold by contract with Westminster city board and we have decided to shut the club pending a complete listening to before Xmas,” Jafari said.
A council representative said: “Following a request from the Metropolitan authorities and with the contract of the driver, the council’s licensing subcommittee has decided to put on hold the Groucho Club’s licence with immediate effect on the basis that the facilities is associated with major criminal offense.
“This choice complies with records that a major criminal offense may have occurred at the facilities in circumstances connected to a violation in the premises’ licensing problems.
“The allegations go through a continuous authorities examination and we cannot remark further at this phase.”
A receptionist at the club, where subscription apparently costs up to £1,500 a year, verified that the club’s licence had been put on hold and decreased to earn any further remarks.
The Groucho Club, in Dean Road, Soho, wased established in 1985 by a team of authors and representatives, and is often visited by succeeding generations of musicians, authors and artists. It took its name from Groucho Marx, that famously said he would certainly didn’t want to come from any club that would certainly have him as a participant.
