Santander’s branch on Market Place, North Walsham, Norfolk, is expected to shut later on this year.
North Norfolk’s Liberal Democrat MP, Steff Aquarone, said he was informed the branch would certainly remain open up until a financial center was established by the company Link.
Financial centers are spaces common by high road financial institutions, where staff work on a turning basis throughout the week.
On Wednesday, Santander announced it was to shut 95 of its branches throughout the UK – consisting of in North Walsham – placing 750 jobs in danger.
“I am upset and distraught for the group at Santander in North Walsham that are readied to shed their jobs when the financial institution shuts,” Aquarone said.
“I have been campaigning for financial centers for 3 years, launching petitions and talking on the subject in Parliament to emphasize the importance of efficient local financial solutions for local individuals.
“I am delighted that I have currently secured a 2nd financial center, this time around in North Walsham – it’s a hectic community with busy companies, and I know that residents here need routine access to cash and solutions.”
Financial centers currently exist in Watton, Downham Market, Holt and Harleston.
2 further centers are prepared for Thetford and Wymondham.
North Walsham’s financial center will be delivered by Cash Access UK.
Santander said the changes were because of a “a fast movement of customers deciding to do their financial electronically”.
A business representative included: “Shutting a branch is constantly an extremely challenging choice and we invest a good deal of time assessing where when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may carry our customers.”
It remains unidentified exactly when Santander will enclose North Walsham.
However, the company said it would certainly start shutting UK branches from June.
